What I’m working on

I enjoy helping entrepreneurial, technical, and creative people achieve remarkable things.

If youd like to connect, feel free to email me or reach out on LinkedIn. I love hearing from people working on ambitious—or even ridiculous—projects.

About me

Ive always been drawn to exploring the future—working with emerging technologies and businesses before they go mainstream.

As a founder, I’ve learned valuable lessons—from navigating startup challenges to developing hands-on skills that turn vision into reality.

As an online marketing specialist, Ive worked on the websites of many leading tech companies, including Amazon, Apple, Dropbox, Google, and Meta—plus hundreds of ambitious startups, scaleups, and enterprises.

I’m also privileged to collaborate with many amazing entrepreneurs doing disruptive things as an advisor, investor, and friend.

Here’s an overview of my previous experience.

Founded and bootstrapped a performance marketing agency to a successful acquisition

In 2006, Karl Blanks and I co-founded Conversion Rate Experts, an agency that grows businesses by measurably improving the online customer experience.

From 2006 to 2022, I served as CEO, and Karl as CTO.

The day after we launched, Google, recognizing our scientific approach, invited us to become its first international partner for its A/B-testing tool.

With our incredible team, we significantly increased profits for hundreds of businesses—from blue-chip enterprises to global tech giants—across more than 80 industries, 40 countries, and 11 languages.

During this period, we also helped to fuel the growth of numerous early stage startups, including many that achieved unicorn valuations and became household names.

Our methods and client successes have featured in publications including Fortune, Forbes, Psychology Today, The Telegraph, and The Financial Times.

Following Conversion Rate Experts’ acquisition by Next 15 (a publicly listed growth consultancy) in 2020, Karl and I transitioned leadership to two long-standing team members.

Best-selling author

Our book, Making Websites Win, was a bestseller in 15 categories on Amazon and recommended by industry leaders from Dropbox, Google, and Microsoft. (As an experiment, we gave the audiobook away as a free podcast, and it debuted at #3 in the iTunes “Management and Marketing” chart.)

International speaker

I’ve presented at leading industry events across America, Asia, and Europe—for companies such as Econsultancy, eMetrics, FinTech Circle, Google, the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, Moz, PerformanceIN, and SMX.

Winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise—twice

During our time at Conversion Rate Experts, Her Majesty The Queen twice awarded us the Queen's Award for Enterprise, the UK’s highest award for business.

We received our first Queen’s Award for innovation, for codifying the scientific methodology that companies like Amazon and Google now use to improve websites.

Our second Queen’s Award celebrated our outstanding achievement in international trade, demonstrating how a globally distributed team can achieve exceptional results through effective remote work.

Remote-first since 2006

Our experience working with distributed teams began in 2001 while working across the UK, US, and Japan at a global mobile phone company.

This influenced the design of Conversion Rate Experts as a remote-first company from its inception in 2006—driven by the demand of an international client base. (When we began, remote working was taboo, and the technology to do it barely existed.)

Our remote-first culture enabled us to attract world-class talent and clients in 40 countries, earned media praise, and led to our winning successive TINYpulse awards.

These awards, based on team feedback, recognize industry-leading scores in areas like team happiness, company culture, personal development, communication and transparency, talent retention and attraction, and performance recognition.
